A ceramic capacitor is a two-terminal, non-polar device. As one kind of ceramic capacitor,ceramic disc capacitors are units used to manage voltage for various dielectric functions in the computer industry. The role of ceramic layers is to dissipate heat which may occur due to high voltage, while protecting the environment-both internal and external  from damage.


An electrolytic capacitor is a type of capacitor that uses an electrolyte, an ionic conducting liquid, as one of its plates, to achieve a larger capacitance per unit volume than other types. They are often referred to in electronics usage simply as “electrolytics”. They are used in relatively high-current and low-frequency electrical circuits, particularly in power supply filters, where they store charge needed to moderate output voltage and current fluctuations in rectifier output. They are also widely used as coupling capacitors in circuits where AC should be conducted but DC should not. There are two types of electrolytics; aluminum and tantalum.

Electrolytic capacitors are electronic components that store electric charge. What distinguishes them from other types of capacitors is the manner in which they store that charge. Electrolytic capacitors make use of an electrolyte, a liquid or jelly-like substance with a high level of electric conductance, in order to store electricity.Axial electrolytic capacitor is one type o electrolytic capacitor,they are so named for the manner in which the capacitors leads – the wires which run in and out of the capacitor — are situated on the component. Most capacitors are shaped like tiny barrels with two wires running out of them. In axial electrolytic capacitors, the leads are located on the opposite ends of the capacitor. Axial electrolytic capacitors are large in size and usually lay horizontally on circuit boards.

Electrolytic capacitors

Electrolytic capacitors are polarised and they must be connected the correct way round, at least one of their leads will be marked + or -. They are not damaged by heat when soldering.There are two designs of electrolytic capacitors; axial where the leads are attached to each end (220µF in picture) and radial where both leads are at the same end (10µF in picture). Radial capacitors tend to be a little smaller and they stand upright on the circuit board. It is easy to find the value of electrolytic capacitors because they are clearly printed with their capacitance and voltage rating. The voltage rating can be quite low (6V for example) and it should always be checked when selecting an electrolytic capacitor. If the project parts list does not specify a voltage, choose a capacitor with a rating which is greater than the project’s power supply voltage.25V is a sensible minimum for most battery circuits.


The advantages of Tantalum Capacitors
High reliability: Tantalum Capacitors are more reliable than many other forms of capacitor. Provided they are operated within their ratings they are able to provide an almost unlimited life. Their use is not time limited as in the case of electrolytic capacitors.


Capacitance instability
The capacitance of certain capacitors decreases as the component ages. In ceramic capacitors, this is caused by degradation of the dielectric. The type of dielectric and the ambient operating and storage temperatures are the most significant aging factors, while the operating voltage has a smaller effect. The aging process may be reversed by heating the component above the Curie point. Aging is fastest near the beginning of life of the component, and the device stabilizes over time.[20] Electrolytic capacitors age as the electrolyte evaporates. In contrast with ceramic capacitors, this occurs towards the end of life of the component.Capacitors, especially ceramic capacitors, and older designs such as paper capacitors, can absorb sound waves resulting in a microphonic effect. Vibration moves the plates, causing the capacitance to vary, in turn inducing AC current. Some dielectrics also generate piezoelectricity. The resulting interference is especially problematic in audio applications, potentially causing feedback or unintended recording. In the reverse microphonic effect, the varying electric field between the capacitor plates exerts a physical force, moving them as a speaker. This can generate audible sound, but drains energy and stresses the dielectric and the electrolyte, if any.


As to capacitor,there are various kinds of styles,such as tantalum capacitor,ceramic capacitor,film capacitor and electrolytic capacitor,polyester film metal foil capacitor is one type of film capacitor.It is with Small size , light weight and low cost,high stability and reliability.Dissipation factor is small because the leads are directly welded to electrodes.It is widely used in DC and pulsating circuits of broadcasting and TV sets,Communication,equipment,monitor,energy-saving lamps and various electronic equipments technical.
